A newly built house in Lakeview offers more than a first-floor master layout, a rain sculpture shower in the master bath and an open kitchen-dining area with space for a 10-seat table. It also, hopefully, will raise $1.3 million for the families seeking treatment atSt. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

The four-bedroom, 3.5-bathroom house at 6632 Pontchartrain Blvd, is the 2017 St. Jude Dream Home. Tickets for a chance to win the property are $100, and the drawing will be held June 25. Only 13,000 tickets will be sold.

For the third year, Hyman Bartolo of Hyman L. Bartolo Jr. Contractors built the fundraiser house, collaborating with suppliers across the city to get materials and services donated for the cause.

Bartolo is passionate about helping St. Jude's, the Memphis-based research hospital which never charges its patients for treatment, travel, housing or food. He has already agreed to build the 2018 New Orleans St. Jude Dream Home.

"It really is amazing to see so many from our community come together to help," Bartolo said. "We had six different cement companies pouring for the slab and not a bill from anyone. It is awesome when we work together."

He said even the city of New Orleans participated in the effort, donating the permit for the building project.

Bartolo said the home is worth close to $600,000, and the 3,049 square feet of living space features high-end fixtures, such as Brizo faucets, solid wood cabinets, quartz countertops, tile flooring mimicking wood in the main living areas and marble in the foyer.

The home's under-beam total square footage is 3,700 and includes a single-car attached garage, covered patio with scored and stained concrete and Fanamation ceiling fans.

Designer Gerald Mire said his goal was to create a classic New Orleans house. "I didn't want anything to trendy," he said. To get a timeless feel with a New Orleans vibe, he used crystal and glass light fixtures, wrought iron on an exterior faux balcony over the front door and on the stairwell, and a front door made of Spanish cedar with a wrought iron grill over glass.

The large master bathroom features a built-in linen closet, his and hers vanities and a shower with an 8-foot wall and rain faucet sculpture tucked behind the bathtub. The floor of the shower is a boca basketweave mosaic with three marbles.

On the main floor, the foyer flows into the master suite, and a hallway nook set up as music room could be a home office, Mire said.

A bench, tucked behind the laundry room, leads to the garage. The laundry room, features a vent-free drier.

The great room includes built-in cabinets on each side of a fireplace and opens up into the kitchen and dining area with the patio off the eating area. Windows line the back of the house for a view of the patio and an open feel, Mire said.

On the second floor, a Juliet balcony overlooks the foyer. A kids' den upstairs could also be a guest suite or additional bedroom, Mire said.

A jack-and-Jill bathroom with herringbone mosaic Rockwood marble floors links two upstairs bedrooms.

Mire said the fixtures throughout the house are a mixture of winter gold, brushed bronze and nickel.

Tickets can be purchased by visiting the house every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. until June 18 or online. The house also will be featured on the Parade of Homes,June 3-4 and June 10-11,1-5 p.m.

Tickets have sold out prior to the drawing for the past two years, and Mire said sales are ahead of schedule so far by about 1,000 tickets, Mire said.

Ticket holders also can visit the home to register for a free cruise and $10,000 in groceries.

The New Orleans home is one of 30 St. Jude Dream Homes across the country. The St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway was first held in 1991 in Shreveport, and the program has helped raise more than $300 million for St. Jude. More than 400 homes have been given away since the program's inception.
